Join the pan-European discussions in climate democracy

In this event, NGO Green Liberty brings together different actors from policy makers, deliberative experts, practitioners, university researchers to discuss two key topics. Firstly, goals set for research on climate litigation and activism in order to promote climate justice. Secondly, how deliberative methods can strengthen climate democracy and accelerate climate transitions in order to promote citizen participation.

Together in these hyperlocal discussions between 15 countries we will bring up questions to the leading industry experts and share our opinions in the discussions.

Introduction and setting the context – placing the event within the framework of the Hybrid European Democracy Festival

12.00-13.30

Discussion: "Supporting climate action through activism and litigation"

As first part of the programme, we join a hybrid discussion between London, Dublin, Trento and Helsinki on how we can support climate action through activism and litigation.

Researchers, activists and litigants sharing their cases are: 

  • from Helsinki: Kati Kulovesi (University of Eastern Finland) and Hanna Aho (The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation)
  • from Trento: Louisa Rosemary Parks (University of Trento)
  • from London: Joana Setzer (London School of Economics)
  • from Dublin: Clodagh Daly (Community Law and Mediation) and Diarmuid Torney (Dublin City University)

Disucssion "How to strengthen climate democracy with deliberative citizen participation?"

The second discussion between Tartu, Ghent and London focuses on how to promote and institutionalise deliberative citizen methods like climate assemblies in order to strengthen climate democracy.
