Schools and teachers have always played an important role in imparting knowledge and nurturing young individuals. However, as the world evolves, societal expectations of what schools should do and teach have grown significantly – from providing subject-specific knowledge to educating students on environmental and financial literacy, and teaching them behavioral and collaborative skills. Should all these topics be covered by schools and teachers? What is the unique expertise of schools, and what skills should come from elsewhere? Teachers often have significant autonomy in their classrooms and the ability to guide students in the direction they choose. However, what changes should be left undone?

The problem of communities located far from the centers in all three Southern Estonia, Northern Norway and Upper Austria Alps is marginalization and, with it, worsening poverty and loneliness. How can arts and do artist have the power to stop it? In order for life on the outskirts to function, a vibrant community must exist or emerge there. Ideally, there should be a balance between different age groups in the community, in other words, so that the community is not only formed by those who could not leave. And one of the most important components in the communities of both in Northern Norway, Upper Alps and Southeastern Estonia are very local artist-led initatives which bring together global topic, local and international community. The goal is to share initatives, practical examples on how arts or artists have helped to overcome marginalization and extinction of region and given new opportunities for people and especially youth.

Topics are presented to reinforce community and culture pride, exploiting the tribalism within each targeted community. In our panel we will focus on the role of social media in disinformation, especially during the EU electoral campaign. Through that we will discuss the case of Italy in 2018 with the help of the professor of the University of Tartu, Stefano Braghiroli. As well, we will have an interactive part of the discussion, consisting of 2 workshops, related to our topic. In the end of the discussion we will give the recommendations and have a Q&A and ask the audience how they would react to disinformation in future.
